Position Description:

Purpose

A postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. William R Hogan in the Data Science Institute at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The research in the lab focuses on implementation and development of ontologies, referent tracking, and other symbolic approaches to knowledge representation. In particular, the position will work on the Ontology for Modeling and Representation of Social Entities, the Drug Ontology, and Apollo-SV, among others. Highly motivated individuals with a Ph.D. and a strong track record of research accomplishments as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals are encouraged to apply.

Primary Functions

  • Manage ontology release process using the Ontology Development Kit and GitHub
  • Develop ontology content in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Develop referent tracking frameworks
  • Plan, design and execute complex research studies, procedures and protocols.
  • Participate in discovery projects.
  • Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
  • Oversee organization, synthesis and analysis of data and findings.
  • Prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts. 
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff in which you will evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, and design and evaluate lab procedures.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Required knowledge: Doctoral degree in biomedical informatics, data science, information science, bioinformatics, computer science, or philosophy; requires documentation, records management, data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, technical, and writing skills.

Specifications

Minimum Required Education:               PhD in a scientific field or completing PhD by May 1st 2024
