Position Description:

Purpose

A postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Lei Fan in the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. The research lab focuses on developing multiscale/multiphysics computational models for cardiovascular system.

Primary Functions

The successful candidates will work on and contribute to ongoing research that solves problems related to the cardiovascular system by developing multiscale/multiphysics computational models as well as publish peer-reviewed journal publications. Additionally, the successful candidate for the postdoc position will be expected to help mentor students and write proposals. The successful candidate will enjoy ample training and networking opportunities.

Position Requirements:

Required knowledge:  Doctoral degree in computational mechanics, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, materials science, materials engineering, or a related scientific field.

Skills and abilities:

  • Strong background in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, computational mechanics, or equivalent fields.
  • Strong foundation in numerical methods, especially the finite element method. Proficient in Python and C++ programming language.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who are familiar with the open-source finite element library FeNiCS, cardiac mechanics, medical imaging processing and machine learning techniques.
  • Special consideration will also be given to candidates processing knowledge and experience in performing bio-related experiments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Mentorship skills for junior scientists and students
