Position Summary
The Spaeth group, located at the Indiana University School of Medicine (Department of Pediatrics: https://jspaeth4.wixsite.com/spaethlab ), is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the involvement of transcriptional coregulators in the development of endocrine cells and postnatal beta cells. Utilizing transgenic mouse models, the successful candidate will explore the molecular impact of specific coregulators on gene expression mechanisms through techniques such as RNA sequencing, ATAC sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing, Cut&Run sequencing, and subsequent bioinformatics analyses. Notable recent publications from the lab include articles in Diabetes, Islets, and the Journal of Molecular Endocrinology (https://doi.org/10.2337/db22-0939 ; https://doi.org/10.1080/19382014.2023.2267725 ; https://doi.org/10.1530%2FJME-22-0011 ). 
The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in the fundamental mechanisms of metabolic diseases, particularly diabetes and/or obesity, and will demonstrate expertise in mouse models, cell cultures, and a variety of molecular, histological, and biochemical methodologies, including RNA extraction from limited cell samples. Proficiency in diabetes research, evidenced by first-author publications during graduate school or postdoctoral research, is requested. Salary will adhere to NIH postdoctoral guidelines, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness. With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Basic Qualifications
  • PhD or MD in Physiology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in basic biochemistry, histology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular techniques, as well as experience with rodent models.
  • Self-motivation, critical thinking, independent work ethic, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with others in a research setting.
  • Experience in grant preparation and presentation at national meetings is preferred.
