Position Description
The Nutritional & Microbial Ecology Lab is inviting applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology. The ideal applicant will be interested in how diet or evolutionary history shapes host-microbial interactions in energy metabolism, and will have a strong foundation in physiology, microbial ecology, computational biology and/or biophysics. This full-time position is initially for one year but with the possibility of reappointment contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. The start date is flexible.
Responsibilities involve helping design, conduct, oversee, and publish research related to the adaptive significance of gut permeability. Research will involve in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies interrogating the molecular underpinnings of how environmental and behavioral factors influence gut permeability. Research will be performed in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology but may include collaborations with faculty in other departments at Harvard, including Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, as well as Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Basic Qualifications
A successful applicant would have:
• Ph.D. in a relevant field
• Solid track record of scientific publications and international conference presentations
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Commitment to teamwork
