Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Yale Center for Molecular and Systems Metabolism and Department of Comparative Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine has a postdoctoral research position available for a highly motivated PhD graduate. The successful candidate will join a group of young and motivated scientists in the Alagpulinsa laboratory, located in the Yale Sterling Hall of Medicine, to study hematopoiesis and metabolic diseases, with a particular focus on type 1 diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The ideal candidate would have a strong background and knowledge of molecular biology or immunology and the biomedical sciences in general. A demonstrated success as a recent PhD graduate, with ability to or strong interest in applying single-cell multi-omics and statistical bioinformatics approaches in conjunction with mouse models are desirable. Although there are well-laid out projects with strong preliminary data for an easy start, the position is well-suited for a candidate who has a clear vision and thinks outside the box, with the desire and motivation to expand their research and ultimately develop an independent research program and transition to independence. The successful candidate will receive excellent mentoring and guidance, and the resources needed to thrive and accomplish their research and career goals.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

  1. Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology and immunology techniques such as recombinant DNA techniques, RNA isolation, RT-PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy.
  2. Proficient in mammalian cell culture and lentiviral transduction or willingness to learn.
  3. Experience with mouse work and/or willingness to learn and work with mice.
  4. Knowledge of NGS and single-cell sequencing technologies and familiarity with diverse biostatistics and data analysis software packages such as R would be a plus.
  5. Successful candidate will assume an increasing trajectory of project responsibility in preparation for an independent research career. Components include reviewing and discussing literature in lab meetings and with the PI, routinely tracking and documenting results in electronic and hard-copy laboratory notebooks and databases, analysis, summarization, and presentation of experimental results to other team members, active participation in manuscript preparation and publication.
  6. Biosafety Levels 1-3 experience or willingness to work in these is desirable.
