The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr. Bilchick. The research program involves developing and validating a rapid electrophysiology model to identify a patient-specific pacing protocol for cardiac resynchronization therapy. We are also developing a validating a rapid strain-driven growth model to predict patient-specific long-term outcomes of CRT in patients with left bundle branch block having either ischemic or non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. We are also developing patient-specific models of cardiomyocyte signaling to incorporate the effects of heart failure medications into these models.

The successful candidate will contribute to day-to-day laboratory operations, provide scientific and technical assistance on experimental design, and perform studies needed to advance the missions of our research program. The candidate should also possess strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate contributions to the preparation of research proposals and manuscripts.

Education: A Ph.D. in biomedical engineering is required at the start date.

Experience: The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in machine learning, data science, and multiscale models of growth and remodeling in heart failure. Specifically, the candidate should also have experience in studying the impact of cardiac resynchronization therapy on favorable cardiac modeling. The candidate should also have experience in 3D image analysis and integration. In particular, the candidate should have experience in using cardiac MRI strain, scar, and volumetric data to generate 3D cardiac image reconstructions for use in patients undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy.
