About SUNY Polytechnic Institute:

Employment is with the Research Foundation for The State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly)

The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (SUNY) is the largest, most comprehensive university-connected research foundation in the country. The Research Foundation manages SUNY's research portfolio, providing essential sponsored programs administration and innovation support services to SUNY faculty, students and staff performing research in areas including life sciences and medicine; engineering and nanotechnology; physical sciences and energy; social sciences; arts and humanities; and computer and information sciences.

The Research Foundation, a private, not-for-profit corporation, is an employer separate from both SUNY and the State of New York, and offers comparable compensation and benefit plans. The Research Foundation is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. Potential applicants who share this goal, especially underrepresented minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Description:

SUNY Polytechnic Institute is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate who will work in a collaborative research program. The fabrication of nanometer-scale transistors requires the use of precise atomic-scale layer processing including Atomic Layer Deposition, Atomic Layer etching, and more recently Area Selective Deposition (ASD). ASD enables a self-aligned deposition of nm materials on a selective surface allowing to reduce the cost and the errors related to the top-down patterning approach. The ASD process is currently based on the use of an ALD process which is naturally sensitive to surface chemistry and self-limiting. It is a fact that the selectively deposited films are mostly inorganic materials (dielectrics and metals). This position will extend the development of ASD processes to organic materials. The main work to be done with this position will be on precursors selection, process optimization and innovation, and material characterization with dedicated metrology on nm-scale 3D features. The successful candidate will work with other research scientists in a collaborative work environment.  Publication is an essential part of this research project.  Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.  This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.

Requirements:

Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences/Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field from a college or university accredited by the USDOE or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.

The candidate should have a working knowledge, of plasmas, material processing (CVD, PECVD, ALD, HWCVD, ICVD?), and characterization including transmission electron microscopy, high resolution X-Ray Diffraction, XPS, ellipsometry, and FTIR.

Candidates must address in their applications their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.  This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.
