Title Postdoctoral Fellow
School Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Department/Area Molecular and Cellular Biology
Position Description
The laboratory of Dr. Doeke Hekstra at Harvard University seeks a postdoctoral fellow with a deep interest in the physical basis of protein function. Work in the group combines time-resolved and complementary X-ray diffraction experiments with new tools for their analysis. The specific position focuses on the analysis of time-resolved and complementary X-ray diffraction methods, the development of software enabling such analysis, and the integration with molecular dynamics simulations to build effective models of protein physics. The precise emphasis can be adjusted based on your experience and interest. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experimental and computationally-oriented students in the lab, as well as with computational and experimental collaborators. As part of your postdoctoral training, you will be expected to and have the opportunity to mentor graduate students, work in a team, contribute to grant writing, and develop other skills important for your intended career(s). Start dates are flexible.
Our environment: Our group is part of the Quantitative Biology Initiative, a vibrant community of research groups, as well as a rapidly growing computational & machine learning community. The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology provides a welcoming atmosphere and sense of community for anyone, while embedded in the stimulating setting of Harvard and the Boston area.
Basic Qualifications
A Ph.D. is required. Applicants may have a Ph.D. in physics, biophysics, computational biology/chemistry, statistics/machine learning, or related fields. Applicants are expected to have substantial interest in biophysics, diffraction methods, statistics, and machine learning, but are encouraged to apply regardless of whether they have expertise in all of these areas.
Additional Qualifications
Special Instructions
Letters of recommendation are not required at the time of application, however letters will be collected for finalists. Candidates should submit with their application contact information for two to three references from experts at the ladder faculty ranks or highly accomplished senior researchers from corporations or research institutes.
Please include the following items as part of your application:
  • Cover Letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Summary of research experience and interests.
  • Name and contact information for 2-3 references.
