Position Overview
The Water Quality Center (WQC) at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to start in August 2021 or January 2022. The successful candidate will work with multiple research groups in the WQC to collaborate on biological water/wastewater treatment process design and testing related to one or more of the following: (1) virus mitigation, (2) antibiotic resistance, (3) nutrient removal and recovery, and/or (4) the influence of microbial community composition on engineered anaerobic bioprocess function.

Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate on water/wastewater treatment process design and testing research related to one or more of the following: (1) virus mitigation, (2) antibiotic resistance, (3) nutrient removal and recovery, and/or (4) the influence of microbial community composition on engineered anaerobic bioprocess function. Help mentor graduate (Ph.D., M.S.) and undergraduate student research assistants. Co-author peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, proceedings papers and/or conference posters. Be active in the scientific community and attend one or more conferences each year, preferably delivering a podium presentation or poster.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Earned doctorate (or its foreign equivalent) or appropriate terminal degree.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience in microbial ecology, molecular methods and/or bioinformatics to characterized mixed microbial cultures and/or to determine functional gene presence and number is highly desirable. Experience in virus/phage inactivation and/or quantification is highly desirable. Experience mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students in a research setting is desirable. Experience performing metagenomic analyses of mixed cultures is desirable.
