Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts + Sciences at Indiana University, consists of a well-rounded research community with cutting-edge expertise in a wide variety of modern disciplines including analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, and biochemistry.
Job Summary:
The DiMarchi Lab in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University is taking applications for the position of postdoctoral research fellow. The DiMarchi laboratory has a distinguished history in peptide sciences. The collaborative academic research of his laboratory has broadened the understanding of glucagon physiology and was central to the discovery of single molecule multimode agonists for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. He is recognized as a global spokesperson for macromolecular medicines, having served as Chairman of the Peptide Therapeutic Foundation. He is a member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the National Academy of Medicine.
The research fellow will be part of a collaborative research environment that is interdisciplinary in nature. The work at the Indiana University laboratory is focused on the discovery of novel synthetic chemistry and its application to peptide therapeutics. Our ultimate objective is the discovery of novel peptides that permit the in vivo interrogation of biology in multiple disease models with the intent of discovering transformative drug candidates for the treatment of human pathology. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated synthetic chemist that thrives in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment, anchored in a world-class chemistry department.
Responsibilities:

The research fellow will be responsible for the creation of novel synthetic chemistry and its application to the preparation of peptides to be assessed for physical, biochemical, and collaborative in vivo study in animal models of disease. An in-depth appreciation for current approaches in peptide synthesis with deep expertise in synthetic organic chemistry are fundamentals for success in this position. This synthetic chemistry should possess an interest in the interdisciplinary biological aspects of the targeted synthetic research.

Basic Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in synthetic peptide chemistry, or related synthetic organic chemistry.

Additional Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:

Post-graduate experience in medicinal aspects of drug discovery would constitute an added strength.
Salary and Rank $51,000 /yr
Special Instructions
The initial appointment for this position will be for 12 months. Additional 12-month extensions will be available based on performance and/or availability of funds. A competitive salary along with a benefits package will be offered.
