Position Summary
Dr. Yanhong Shi’s lab is looking for highly motivated and productive postdoctoral fellows for stem cell research projects within the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (Shi laboratory) at Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope located in the county of Los Angeles, California. Candidates interested in this position are encouraged to submit curriculum vitae, brief statement of interests and a list of three references.
The Shi laboratory has been well known for stem cell research, including stem cell-based disease modeling and cell therapy development. This laboratory is one of the pioneers in establishing disease models and cell therapies using the human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) platform and has published extensively in this area. Some of the papers published by the Shi laboratories include Shi et al. Nature Reviews Drug Discovery 16: 115-130, 2017; Li et al. Cell Stem Cell 23: 239-251, 2018; Feng et al. Advanced Science 7: 2002155, 2020; Wang, et al. Cell Stem Cell 28: 331-342.e5, 2021; Chen et al. Advanced Science: 8: e2101462, 2021; Cui et al. Nature Cancer 2: 932-949, 2021.
The Shi laboratory has established protocols for differentiating human iPSCs into a variety of cell types, including brain cells, blood cells, and organoids, and has developed cellular models and cell therapeutic candidates for diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, Canavan disease, and glioblastoma. The Shi laboratory has well-established experimental platform and sufficient funding for candidates who are interested in doing first-class science.
Key Responsibilities include:
- The postdoctoral fellow will lead a project on human iPSC-based disease modeling and therapeutic development for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
- Fellows are expected to write progress reports and high-quality manuscripts for publication. Applying for postdoctoral fellowship and participating in grant applications are encouraged.
- Candidates should be highly motivated, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and multi-tasking skill.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
- A Ph.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required.
Preferred education, experience and skills:
- A Ph.D., M.D. & Ph.D., or equivalent in biomedical research, with experience in cell culture and basic molecular biology.
- Experience with human iPSC culture, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, neural differentiation of human iPSCs is a plus. Strong molecular biology background is preferred.
