Description of Work Unit
The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences is focused on education, research, and outreach to solve the world’s most pressing food production issues and crucial matters about Earth, its ecosystems, and their services. Our faculty and staff apply research-based solutions to benefit Colorado and the world. We offer academic programs to prepare students to address national and global crop production, sustainability, and environmental quality challenges such as waste management, water quality, and reclamation of drastically disturbed lands. There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in cutting edge research related to global food production and ecosystem function and protection.
Position Summary
We seek a qualified post-doctoral scientist with demonstrated experience in ecosystem biogeochemistry, agricultural management and modeling. Programming skills in Java and an understanding of soil biogeochemistry are highly desirable.  
 
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the MEMS model developing team at Colorado State University, and be responsible for further developing our new generation ecosystem MEMS 2.0 model. In particular the fellow will work independently and within the team to incorporate in the model the representation of conventional (e.g., tillage, mono-cropping, continuous grazing) and regenerative (e.g., no till, cover crops, adaptive grazing) practices, across grasslands and croplands.  The fellow will parameterize the model using existing open-source software on the Model-Independent Parameter Estimation and Uncertainty platform, and apply it to the simulation of C and N dynamics in selected grassland and cropland sites. 
Required Job Qualifications
PhD in ecology, soil science, agricultural science or related topics by the beginning of the appointment 
Demonstrated understanding of terrestrial ecosystem, soil ecology and/or biogeochemistry
Demonstrated mathematical/statistical skills
Preferred Job Qualifications
Previous experience in soil organic matter research
Experience with ecosystem modeling. 
Experience with R or Python programming
Experience with Java programming 
Experience in construct mathematical models
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well in a team that includes interdisciplinary scientists, and modelers
