Position Summary:
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University under the supervision of Dr. Wenqing Xu. The position is funded by the National Institute of Health as part of a recent award toward Dr. Xu’s research on bioremediation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will employ a tunable polymer membrane system to understand what surface properties best support microbial networks for the dechlorination process. The candidate is also expected to assist in the training and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, assisting with the preparation of project reports, and disseminating results in journal publications and conferences. Teaching opportunities can be arranged if the candidate desires.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have:
(1) a Ph.D. degree in environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, polymer engineering, or related fields;
(2) experience in using analytical instruments (IC, UPLC, GC/MS/MS and Q-TOF-MS);
(3) experience in material synthesis, surface functionalization, and characterization (FT-IR, XPS, TEM);
(4) a strong track record of refereed journal publications; and
(5) the ability to work independently and communicate proactively.
The individual must be highly motivated with strong written and oral communication skills.
