What You Will Achieve

We are seeking a PhD-level scientist with in-depth understanding of synthetic organic chemistry techniques as well as knowledge of computational chemistry to join t he Chemical Research & Development (CRD) department in our Groton, CT. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible of developing and testing accurate and efficient workflows combining experimental and computational methods for reaction optimization. You will have access to state-of-the-art hardware, software, and infrastructure support in a fast-paced and creative environment.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Design, execute, analyze and interpret high-throughput reaction screening experiments. No experience in high-throughput experimentation (HTE) is required.
  • Develop an accurate and computationally efficient workflow for small molecule reactivity prediction.
  • Identify opportunities for applications of the workflow to portfolio projects.
  • Publish research in high-impact journals.
  • Present at internal and external conferences.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • PhD in organic chemistry, chemical engineering or similar. PhD students in the last year of their thesis work are eligible to apply if all other requirements will be met at the time of the position's start.
  • No more than 2 years of post-degree experience.
  • Strong track record of scientific excellence as evidenced by publications, conference presentations and at least one first-author publication in high-impact journal.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-Have

  • Understanding of computational chemistry methods (e. g. Density Functional Theory and molecular mechanics), and common software packages (e.g. Gaussian, Orca, Gromacs).
  • Application of computational chemistry for reaction mechanism elucidation and explanation of selectivity, yield, etc.
  • Proficiency in Python; experience with scientific programming and algorithm design.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and HPC environments.

  • Work Location Assignment:On Premise. On Premise colleagues work in a Pfizer site because it's needed to get their job done. They may have flexibility to work remotely from time to time, but they are primarily on-site.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $60,900.00 to $101,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
