Description of Work Unit | The One Health Institute (OHI) at Colorado State University (CSU) is a unit that facilitates research activities at the intersection of human, animal and environmental health. The institute supports transdisciplinary research that spans all eight colleges at CSU and provides infrastructure and framework for collaborative engagement, networking and teaming to find solutions to complex problems. |
Position Summary | We seek to recruit a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on an NSF Biology Integration Institute project, defining the composition, function, and evolution of microbes in the air—the ‘aerobiome’. This exciting project will be based in the One Health Institute at Colorado State University and includes faculty from Departments of Agricultural Biology, Atmospheric Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Microbiology Immunology and Pathology, Sociology, Soil and Crop Sciences at CSU, and faculty at other regional and international locations. Collaborations in research and education among faculty and staff at CSU and elsewhere will be facilitated by project management provided by the successful candidate. |
Required Job Qualifications | We are seeking an individual with experience relating to Regional OneHealth Aerobiome Discovery Network (BROADN) research goals who possesses a communication skill set conducive to assisting with management of a large interdisciplinary project. The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree by the date of hire in a discipline represented by BROADN faculty as listed above, including atmospheric science, microbial physiology/ecology, microbiome, data science, ecosystems science, and other topics related to the wide goals of BROADN, and show evidence of scholarly excellence and accomplishments in at least one of these fields. Excellent communication and organizational skills, experience in writing technical or scientific reports and manuscripts, and demonstrated ability to interact productively with a diverse group of collaborators is required. |
Preferred Job Qualifications | Technical expertise in aerobiology, air sampling technologies, microbiome analysis, microbial genomic determination and analysis, ecology, environmental health, and mathematical modeling are skill sets highly relevant to this position. Expertise in database management, genomics, familiarity with next generation sequencing technologies, biostatistical and bioinformatics analysis is also desirable. Prior project management experience, and familiarity with preparation of annual reports for federal sponsors is preferred. |
