Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.


Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Life Research Institute at The University of Alabama seeks applications for a postdoctoral position to support MRI brain imaging research.

The postdoctoral researcher will be working in a multidisciplinary team environment to support cognitive neuroimaging research. There are several on-going projects in the institute including those studying cognitive aging, second language learning, stroke, and psychosis. UA is also a member of the Healthy Brain Child Development (HBCD) consortium which is an NIH funded study of brain development. UA has a new MRI research facility with a Siemens Prisma scanner, an EEG system, biospecimen collection space, a fullscale mock scanner and behavioral testing rooms.

Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in cognitive neuroimaging. The department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, engineering, computer science, or closely related field is required.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.

Skills and Knowledge: Candidates will have strong abilities with one or more of the following: MRI data collection and analysis including fMRI, diffusion MRI or spectroscopy; experience programming in python and/or matlab; strong computational skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will have a high level of interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with academics, scientists, students and the surrounding community. Further, candidates will demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility, initiative, and excellent communication skills.
