Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.


Additional Department Summary: The Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. This position is available to individuals with research interests in corrosion behavior of cold sprayed Al-alloys.

Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.

The Postdoctoral Fellow position will be expected to conduct research in the area of corrosion performance of cold spray deposited Al-alloys and metal feedstock powder alloy development under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Kubacki.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in terminal degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Experience designing, performing, and analyzing corrosion tests. Proficient user of scanning and transmission electron microscopes.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cold spray deposition and gas atomization. Experience of publications related to corrosion, cold spray, or non-ferrous physical metallurgy.
