Job Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong background in analytical chemistry, physical organic chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field to work on the application of flow-NMR and flow-MS as reaction-monitoring tools. The position is a university and industry collaborative position, and the primary working location will be at a pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a strong understanding of organic and analytical chemistry that is seeking to use their background as part of a team working to develop a multi-technique reaction monitoring system to gain a better understanding of chemical processes.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to our multidisciplinary team on an intellectual and practical level. Individual responsibilities will range from experimental design and execution to data analysis and interpretation. The individual will be expected to work closely with colleagues on project teams, present data at scientific meetings as well as actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts.

The ideal candidate must have a recent Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, physical or synthetic organic chemistry, or chemical engineering (or expect to earn their degree soon) with a maximum of two years previous relevant post-doctoral experience. The ideal candidate should also possess complementary experience using NMR, MS, IR and calorimetry to evaluate reaction kinetics. Experience with computer programming and/or laboratory automation software would also be highly desirable.

Required Qualifications

- Recent Ph.D. in chemistry or an appropriate related field

- PhD awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.

- Extensive knowledge of organic chemistry with demonstrated abilities in reaction design and execution
- Experience in the synthesis and characterization; using multi-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry for structure determination
- Experience with advanced analytical tools, including NMR, IR, MS, and calorimetric methods.
- Proven ability to generate high quality results and interpret data as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals
- Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) required to present project work to management and project team colleagues and to interact effectively with colleagues across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

- First author research publications
- Experience with flow-NMR
- Experience with isolation and structure determination of APIs and their degradation products
- Experience performing chemoenzymatic syntheses
- Presentations at conferences and/or other instances of communicating research work
