Job Description


This position is in the research group of Professor Valerie Welborn. The researcher in this position will be working on a NIH-funded project centered around learning how water and carbohydrates affect the formation of protein crosslinks.

This appointee will perform all aspects of research in the area of assignment, including:
- planning, proposing, and conducting agreed upon subprojects that addresses one, or several, scientific question(s) related to protein crosslinking.
- adapting/modifying standard techniques and procedures in the field
- recording data and recognize inconsistencies or problems
- devising new approaches to problems
- preparing professional presentations and publications

Specific technical duties will include:
1) building of structural and intrinsically disordered protein models for atomistic techniques.
2) development of enhanced sampling approaches adapted to the newly constructed models.
3) mentoring graduate students


Required Qualifications

- PhD in Chemistry or appropriate related field. PhD awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Extensive experience with production-quality atomistic models of condensed-phase systems.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of molecular dynamics software packages.
- Experience with programming/scripting post-processing analysis tools for large systems.
- Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group.
- Strong communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of quantum techniques and software
- Evidence of developing publications based on research
- Creativity, independence, and high motivation
