A postdoctoral research associate is needed to act as field scientist and liaison for applied entomology research in the Richmond, Virginia, area under the supervision and mentorship of Drs. Thomas Kuhar (Department of Entomology) and Alejandro Del Pozo (Hampton Roads AREC). The incumbent will be involved in multiple ongoing agricultural pest research projects, with duties split between research (40%), science communication (40%), and field (20%) responsibilities. Research duties are to include data analysis, manuscript preparation and submission, and grant authorship (as co-PI or PI by approved exception) for projects related to vegetable, turf, and ornamental crops entomology. Science communication duties are to include translating the results of research from the Kuhar and Del Pozo labs into meaningful deliverables for academic, agricultural, and lay audiences, including academic and Extension presentations, physical media, and digital content. The incumbent will also be expected to help with developing insect pest content for the Vegetable MyIPM App. Finally, field responsibilities will include assisting with insect monitoring and coordinating field experiments in the Richmond area.

This appointment is temporary in nature (dependent upon availability of funding, the need for services, and satisfactory performance). Limited supervision of personnel and limited teaching responsibilities may be required. They will be expected to publish the results of research in peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as present the research at scientific meetings.
