Job Description


The Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research & Extension Center, Virginia Tech is seeking a postdoctoral associate in the area of food bioprocess engineering. The position is concerned primarily with numerical simulations and machine learning algorithms to optimize a bioprocessing system.

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct numerical simulation on bioprocess systems and develop optimization strategies on bioprocess systems. The position will also be expected to write manuscripts and assist with grant preparation. The postdoctoral associate position may also be involved in and responsible for student mentorship.


Required Qualifications


• An earned doctoral degree in Biological Systems Engineering, Food Engineering, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
• Experience with conducting original research using computational software such as COMSOL.
• Expertise with programming languages such as C/C++/Python/Fortran or similar.
• Expertise in data science techniques


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high performance computing on large-scale supercomputers
• Experience with hardware design and sensors

$53,550 - $60,000; commensurate with experience.
