A postdoctoral position is available in microbiology in the lab of Dr. Bryan Hsu in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA). Work will focus on studying the role of bacteriophages in the gut microbiota and engineering them for therapeutic function. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop their own research projects and interests so long as they have overlap with the goals of the project. The Hsu lab utilizes molecular, biomaterials and microbiological approaches to study how bacteriophages influence the gut microbiome, to elucidate their links to host health, and to ultimately develop diagnostics and treatments targeted to the gut. Experience with molecular biology, anaerobic bacterial culture, animal models and next generation sequencing is highly desirable. For questions and informal inquiries, send email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are seeking a creative and motivated Ph.D. with expertise in microbiology and molecular biology or a relevant field. A track record of success in scientific communication and peer-reviewed publications are essential, in addition to demonstrated potential for teamwork and mentorship of junior scientists.
Strong preference will be given to individuals with experience in culturing anaerobic bacteria including bacterial pathogens, and molecular cloning. Support by or a willingness to apply for extramural support is a plus.
Commensurate with Experience.
