Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Physics or Chemistry in hand by June 2023.
Preferred Qualifications: 
Expert knowledge of quantum chemistry and quantum scattering.
Brief Description of Duties: 
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Jesus Perez Rios in the Department of Physics & Astronomy . The theoretical atomic and molecular processes group of the Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks a postdoctoral candidate in quantum chemistry/quantum scattering. The position will be attached to a central project on the reaction dynamics of small systems involving charged and neutral particles relevant to cold chemistry. The candidate should have a strong background in quantum chemistry, particularly in density functional theory calculations and wave function-based techniques such as CCSD(T) and MRCI. Similarly, having a solid background in quantal and classical scattering methods is preferable, including QCT, classical trajectory calculations, molecular dynamics, and coupled channels calculations. 

Please visit the Theoretical Atomic and Molecular Processes Group to learn more about our department/research.  The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. 

  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct theoretical research. 
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. 
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
