Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by attached resume)
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Environmental Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Proven experience in probabilistic modeling and mathematical analysis of environmental or socio-economic systems. Proficiency in data analysis and modeling tools, particularly experience with RSEI data from the EPA. Familiarity with programming languages and tools commonly used in HPC environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
A record of relevant publications in high-impact journals. Experience in managing research projects, including budgeting and team coordination. Demonstrated fluency in the statistical programming language R. Familiarity with Areal Apportionment package in R. Experience with managing large datasets and/or spatial data.
Brief Description of Duties: 
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator,
Dr. Mary Collins in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS). The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The successful candidate will have a strong ability in interdisciplinary collaboration, with effective communication skills to work with diverse teams.

      Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct advanced research in probabilistic approaches to mathematical modeling or socio-environmental systems. This would involve developing and refining models that integrate social, economic, and environmental factors.

      Collect and analyze data. Utilize RSEI (Risk-Screening Environmental Indicators) data from the EPA to analyze and interpret trends, risks, and impacts in socio-environmental systems.

      Participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.  May also assist in grant writing.

      Participate in interdisciplinary collaborations, bridging the gap between various scientific domains such as environmental science, social sciences, economics, and computer science.

      Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
