Job Description:

Duties of this appointment include, but are not limited to, performing functions to identify appropriate participants and recruitment of participants. Ensuring all materials and equipment are available and ready for testing. Testing children and their parents in relevant protocols. Training and supervising student assistants in the data collection and scoring of data.  Assist in supervision of undergraduate students.  Conducting statistical analyses.  Prepare manuscripts for publication.  Expectations include experimental design and statistical analysis. 

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) in the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) at the University of Florida invites applications for a fully funded postdoctoral associate position in the Speech Development Laboratory of Susan Nittrouer, Ph.D. https://speechdevelopment.phhp.ufl.edu/. The postdoctoral associate will coordinate and conduct research in auditory and language development in the Speech Development Laboratory. The postdoctoral associate will provide support to a current National Institutes of Health funded study titled, Poverty-Related Risk Factors for Auditory and Language Deficits in Children.

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is one of eight departments in the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and is well integrated within the UF Health Science Center, thereby offering a wealth of opportunities for scholarly collaborations.  The department offers three degrees: Doctor of Audiology (AuD), Master of Art’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders (the degree program for speech-language pathology), and Bachelor of Health Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  The College of PHHP also offers a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, which includes a concentration in Communication and Swallowing Sciences and Disorders.

Expected Salary:

$56,484.00 annually, commensurate with experience levels and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

A Ph.D. in speech, language, and hearing sciences, communication sciences and disorders, psychology, linguistics, or related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants should have strong decision making and critical thinking skills and accuracy and attention to detail. The ability to communicate effectively and develop interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in the lab, department, college, university community, and research participants. The ability to work with a team and ability for self-directed growth and development. Familiarity with the theories and methods of research in either auditory or speech-language development.
