Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a postdoctoral research position associated with the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine.
A full-time Postdoctoral Associate position is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Eddy Arnold. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research studying the structure and function of human viral proteins and polyproteins, including from SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, and an array of viruses that are significant pandemic threats. Structure determination of key viral proteins including polymerases will contribute to structure-guided drug design. These studies will also lead to insights into fundamental mechanisms of polymerization, inhibition, and resistance.
The Postdoctoral Associate will spearhead implementation of cryo-EM techniques and certain other techniques with the Arnold Lab group towards understanding biomolecular function and expanding the methodological knowledge of the team. Will train and mentor students, fellows, and other scientists in cryo-electron microscopy. The Postdoctoral Associate will perform and document cutting-edge cryo-EM experiments. Will perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
Must hold a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline at the time of appointment. Candidates with All But Degree status will be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Applicants must have expert knowledge in the field of cryo-electron microscopy, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques, including recombinant DNA technologies and protein expression and purification techniques.
- Advanced structural biology knowledge and skills including: 1) crystallization set-up using robotics, 2) experience using synchrotron beam lines for crystal diffraction, or 3) sample preparation and data processing experience in cryo-electron microscopy, are preferred.
- Experience with electron microscope operation, optimization of grid preparation for data collection, and data processing using software packages including RELION and CryoSPARC, are strongly preferred.
- Experience with shell scripting is preferred.
- Knowledge of bioinformatic tools for protein structure determination and analysis is highly desirable.
