Postdoctoral position developing novel optical microscopy tools for deep tissue in vivo imaging

Lab: Rodríguez Lab, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Yale University | rodriguezlab.yale.edu

PI: Cristina Rodríguez, [email protected]

Lab description: The Rodríguez Lab is a new lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Yale University. Its focus is to develop and apply optical tools for imaging deep into biological tissues with high spatial resolution. Using a multidisciplinary approach involving physics, nonlinear optics, and microscopy development, the Rodríguez Lab seeks to advance our understanding of previously underexplored biology. In particular, we are interested in applying our technological advances to neurobiological questions.

For an example of previous work, please see: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41592-021-01279-0.

In the Rodríguez Lab we believe it is within diverse communities – where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and supported – that groundbreaking ideas and creative achievements are born. Everyone is encouraged to bring their entire self to the lab and find space for self-expression through science. If this resonates with you, please get in touch!

Job details: We are looking for a Postdoctoral Associate with experience designing/building/aligning optical systems. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in physics, optical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field (or will graduate within the next months). In this position you will have the opportunity to design and build a multiphoton microscopes and develop state-of-the-art optical tools (e.g., wavefront shaping) for deep tissue biological imaging, including the brain and spinal cord. For this position, an interest in learning neurobiology is strongly encouraged.

The interdisciplinary and highly collaborative environment of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Yale, as well as the strong and rapidly growing biomedical imaging community, will provide an exceptional environment for conducting postdoctoral training. Moreover, since research in the Rodríguez Lab lies at the interface between cutting-edge optical microscopy and neurobiology, the holder of this position will benefit immensely from the strong neuroscience community at Yale – including the recently established Wu Tsai Institute – which will provide many exciting opportunities for collaborations.

How to apply: Interested candidates please reach out to [email protected]. Include your CV and a one- page description of your research interests and why you would like to join our lab. Please be prepared to provide contact information for three references upon request. Candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
