The Nicholas School of Environment (Climate Dynamics Lab) and Duke Global Health Institute at Duke University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on coupled climate dynamics to inform infectious disease monitoring in Latin America. The main goal of the project is to develop and evaluate tools for air-sea coupling in global climate change and variability to integrate into an existing malaria early warning system for the Amazon. The topics of the project are flexible and include, for example, global warming pattern formation, ocean inter-basin teleconnection, and climate predictability as well as vector-borne and zoonotic infectious disease modeling. A PhD in physical oceanography, atmospheric science, or related fields is required. Experience with climate modeling (e.g., CESM or similar GCMs) and/or infectious disease modeling (or epidemiology) is highly desirable. The position will be awarded for one year with a flexible starting date and extended by one or two more years contingent on satisfactory performance.
