POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), to work in the area of electricity system modeling and its applications to study planning and operations of renewables-dominant power systems. This project will involve researchers at MITEI and the departments of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering.  The project will use and expand GenX, an open-source planning model developed at MITEI , to investigate the long-term evolution of India’s electric grid and the opportunities for technology retrofit opportunities in supporting renewables integration, decarbonization, and reliable system operations. Responsibilities include working with the engineering researchers to develop detailed representation of retrofit technologies in GenX; improving and extending GenX’s modeling and computational performance as needed; evaluating model across range of technology and policy scenarios to understand the value of individual retrofit technologies; and assisting with writing and editing high-impact articles on this effort.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline with a demonstrated background in optimization methods and applied energy system modeling, familiarity with algebraic modeling languages used for linear and mixed integer programming (e.g., Julia/JuMP, Python/Pyomo), and comfort working in a multidisciplinary environment. PREFERRED:  experience with manipulating large data sets.  Job #21494

This is a twelve-month appointment with renewal contingent upon performance and funding.
