Preferred Qualifications

Potential candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or any related discipline with a strong background in biomolecular NMR spectroscopy. Expertise in recombinant protein expression and purification is desired, and experience with isothermal titration calorimetry and other biophysical techniques (fluorescence spectroscopy, molecular modeling, etc.) is preferred.

Position Description
Grant Funded Position. Continued employment contingent on grant renewals.

The Laboratory of Dr. T. Michael Sabo in the Brown Cancer Center seeks a PhD graduate with experience in biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and protein biophysics to pursue studies on a NIH funded project that investigates how functional site distant, non-synonymous single nucleotide variants of human guanylate kinase impact catalytic activity without affecting the mean wild-type structure. The funded project explores what is responsible for this modulated catalytic activity from a rigorous kinetic and thermodynamic perspective utilizing solution-state NMR spectroscopy and isothermal calorimetry. The long-term goal of the group is to develop alternative strategies to biomolecular regulation that are distinct from evolutionarily conserved sites to improve the specificity and efficacy of small molecule effectors.

The Brown Cancer Center encourages candidates to apply who have demonstrated capacity to create inclusive work environments, will work effectively on increasingly diverse teams, and will serve the increasingly diverse students we admit and want to attract.

We are looking for candidates who can work independently, are self-motivated, and can collaborate within the context of the NIH-funded project. Applicants should submit, as one document, a cover letter describing their previous research experience and research interests, and their CV. If the applicant is selected for an interview, then the candidate will be asked to provide two letters of recommendation, one letter being from their PhD mentor. The position will remain open until it is filled by a qualified candidate.
