The Center for the Advanced Study of Human Paleobiology at The George Washington University seeks a Postdoctoral Associate for a one year position. The Postdoctoral Associate is expected to have an interdisciplinary approach to the study of human evolution and/or primate biology (see our website for description of the different labs (https://cashp.columbian.gwu.edu/research-labs ). This position has full benefits and salary. Review of candidates will begin at the end of August and will continue until the position is filled. The current position is for a 1 year position but could be renewed for a second year pending funding approval and adequate job performance. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2022, contingent on the status of on-campus research activity. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to work alongside faculty members within the center in a research and training capacity. The selected candidate should have a broad interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of the biological, behavioral and/or genetic underpinnings of evolution of humans or other primates and an interest in collaborating with the faculty and/or students within the center. We are particularly interested in candidates that can bridge 2 or more of the labs in an interesting and innovative way. The ideal candidate will have experience collecting and analyzing quantitative data in a way that is translatable across numerous sub-disciplines. The successful candidate could also have other skill sets that can cross disciplinary boundaries (e.g., new data collection techniques, data management and informatics, strategies for inclusive teaching and/or increasing participation of underrepresented minorities in research). We are particularly interested in candidates who can exhibit evidence of enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in their professional careers. Candidates must have obtained their PhD in a related field prior to the start date. This position will provide the opportunity to interact with scientists across The George Washington University, our Resource Faculty in the Smithsonian Institution and other greater Washington DC-area organizations. Duties: * Participate in the training of graduate and undergraduate students through tiered-mentoring. * Assist in undergraduate and graduate coursework, and to help coordinate activities of the center, including the weekly meeting/journal club, and occasional visiting scholars. * Postdocs will design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings and publish results in research journals, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In some cases, postdocs will assume general responsibility for general scientific operations in the lab, and/or provide supervision and guidance to laboratory staff, trainees, and other researchers. A Postdoctoral Associate:
In collaboration with experienced researchers, this role will participate in the planning and conduction of discovery research, data analysis and interpretation, preparation of materials for publication, presentations at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This role can expect timely advice as to research directions and career planning for a future independent career. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Special Instructions to the Applicant: Appointments are limited-term and are designed for those who have recently received a doctorate. Appointments are made to academic departments with the approval of the department head and may require senior officer approval. Appointments are usually for not less than one term and are normally not renewed beyond a total of five years. This appointment is not intended for long-term, indefinite, or career appointments. |

Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: | 1.) A research program involving an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the biological, behavioral, ecological, cognitive and/or genetic evolution of humans and their primate relatives. 2.) PhD in relevant specialty with all work completed and approved by time of appointment 3.) Ability to bridge research topics between two or more of the labs that make up the CASHP center (see website for description of different labs) |
