Summary

The Watrous Lab in the Department of Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine is hiring a postdoctoral associate! Come join a growing team using human intracranial recordings to understand the electrophysiological basis of learning, memory, and navigation. The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the PI and other research personnel to conduct experiments, collect, compile, and analyze single-neuron and local field potential recordings during naturalistic behavioral tasks.

 

The prospective postdoc will have broad license and dedicated research time for independent projects capitalizing on human single neuron/ LFP recordings with electrical brain stimulation. This position is suited for someone interested in developing real-time neuro-behavioral closed-loop experiments for use in patients in the epilepsy monitoring unit.


Job Duties
  • Communicates effectively with research participants in the hospital to describe planned experiments, timelines, and purpose. The Postdoctoral Associate also communicates with all other research personnel to plan the timeline of experiments across multiple labs and seeks appropriate authorization from senior research and clinical personnel.
  • Prepares materials and conducts research experiments in the clinical research environment in the hospital, under the guidance of the PI, including preparation of research equipment, configuration and troubleshooting of research equipment, and administration of research experiments.
  • Collects research data files from lab equipment, compiles the data and maintains data on shared research server, and performs processing and analysis of data under the guidance from the PI and collaborating faculty.
  • Documents experiments in shared repository notebook and experimental logs including timing of experiments, filenames, and basic behavioral observations.
  • Selects and applies routine research techniques such as data preprocessing using existing analytical pipelines, quality control of data, and discussion of findings with lab members.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Previous experience collecting and analyzing human intracranial recordings
  • Previous experience collecting and analyzing human intracranial recordings Advanced knowledge of Matlab, Python, and/or C
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to details
  • Willingness to work in a clinical research environment
