The Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) supports the research infrastructure and facilitates several institutional research initiatives .
In the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, this role will:
establish both theoretical and computational frameworks to analyze and certify the intriguing behaviors of complicated open hybrid dynamical systems, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of investigators in applied mathematics, computer science, and robotics.
Postdocs will design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings and publish results in research journals, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In some cases, postdocs will assume general responsibility for general scientific operations in the lab, and/or provide supervision and guidance to laboratory staff, trainees and other researchers.
Examples of duties might include:
● Identify and construct the inherent structures of hybrid dynamics, such as topological properties and invariances, that can be preserved under the interaction with uncertain environments and composition over a complex network.
● Participate multidisciplinary collaborative efforts in dynamical systems and theoretical computer science, by synergistically integrating diverse approaches in geometry, topology, homology, category theory, stochastic analysis, and modern data-driven techniques.
● Establish a trustworthy computational foundation that is carefully constructed in conjunction with the underlying geometry, leading to a significant generalization capacity and computation efficiency to handle non-trivial and non-conventional hybrid systems.
● Participate in training of fellows, residents, students, and volunteer worker as needed.
● Assist in reporting the research outcomes to the sponsor.
Minimum Qualifications
Desired Qualifications:
A Postdoctoral Associate:
-holds a PhD or equivalent degree;
- develops skills by participating in scholarly projects that are actively mentored by a member of the university faculty;
- receives financial support in the form of a salary that is typically funded by grants, contracts or departmental funds secured by a faculty mentor; and
- has a limited term of up to five years at GW.
