Postdoctoral Associate position available in the laboratory of Dong Yan at Duke University, NC, USA (https://mgm.duke.edu/faculty-and-research/primary-faculty/dong-yan-phd/ ). Competitive salary and excellent work environment.

Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying neuronal development, regeneration, and degeneration.  We use a free-living tiny roundworm, called Caenorhabditis elegans, as a model. The defined cell lineage, completely mapped connectome and rapid life cycle of this organism greatly facilitate investigating the nervous system at the subcellular resolution. Using cutting edge laser axotomy, live imaging, and genetic and genome editing approaches, we address questions related to neurons and glia in development and aging. We currently have projects focusing on the following areas: i) neuronal and glial development; ii) gap junction regulation; iii) neurodegeneration and regeneration. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in developmental and molecular/cellular biology and a strong interest in neurobiology. Candidates must hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD degree or have completed the requirements for such a degree prior to starting the position as well as have prior publications.

Applicants should submit a CV, statement of research interests, and names and contact information of three references.

Min Degree Requirements: If the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred. Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: This position is limited to those with no more than 5 years combined of Duke and external postdoctoral experience, or no more than 4 years of Duke experience if that is the only postdoctoral experience.

Position is for one year to start, extensions will be contingent on funding, performance, and needs of the lab.
