Postdoctoral Research Position in Neuroprotection and Anesthesiology

Department of Anesthesiology, Duke University

Position Overview: Duke University's Department of Anesthesiology is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research position. The successful candidate will be involved in groundbreaking research focusing on neuroprotection, specifically exploring the mechanisms of anesthesia and its effects on cognitive outcomes post-surgery. This project is part of a dynamic, cross-disciplinary collaboration involving both the Anesthesiology and Physics Departments at Duke University.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct advanced research on the binding properties of noble gases to neuronal receptors.

• Investigate the specific roles of noble gases in anesthesia and brain protection.

• Collaborate across departments and contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Neuroscience, Biophysics, Pharmacology, or a related field.

• Solid background in mouse modeling, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

• Familiarity with various analytical methods and electrophysiology is desirable.

• Previous research experience in the field of anesthesiology will be an asset.

Required Qualifications: 

Min Degree Requirements:  Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.)

Other Credential/Experiential Requirements:  The incumbent must be a true post-doctoral fellow registered with the Post Doc Office and per the following requirements:

• The term of this appointment is limited (5 years with a possible extension for an additional year)

• The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, which may include teaching responsibilities.

• The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full time academic or research career.

• The appointment is not part of a clinical research training program, unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is a primary purpose of the appointment.

• The appointee works under the supervision of a scholar or a department at Duke University.

• The appointee has the freedom, and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.
