School of Medicine Established in 1930, Duke University School of Medicine is the youngest of the nation's top medical schools. Ranked sixth among medical schools in the nation, the School takes pride in being an inclusive community of outstanding learners, investigators, clinicians, and staff where interdisciplinary collaboration is embraced and great ideas accelerate translation of fundamental scientific discoveries to improve human health locally and around the globe. Composed of more than 2,500 faculty physicians and researchers, more than 1,300 students, and more than 6,000 staff, the Duke University School of Medicine along with the Duke University School of Nursing, Duke University Health System and the Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC) comprise Duke Health. a world-class academic medical center. The Health System encompasses Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Primary Care, Duke Home and Hospice, Duke Health and Wellness, and multiple affiliations.
POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE
Drs. Deborah Muoio and Paul Grimsrud invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position at the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute (DMPI) within the School of Medicine at Duke University (Durham, NC). The DMPI and Duke University are part of a broad and dynamic community of academic and industry scientists in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) area of North Carolina. The DMPI occupies a place of national and international leadership in the fight against major diseases and is a multi- and inter-disciplinary Institute encompassing basic and translational investigators across a variety of scientific disciplines. Our mission is to produce integrated multi-omics and physiologic profiles of chronic human diseases, and to use such profiles to develop new disease detection strategies, novel therapies, and insights into disease mechanisms. The Postdoctoral Associate will utilize mass-spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics to investigate roles of protein post-translational modifications (PTMs) in regulating mitochondrial physiology and metabolic flux in heart, skeletal muscle, and liver. The ideal candidate will have strong training in basic sciences and research interests in molecular mechanisms of chronic metabolic disorders or conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and aging. Although candidates with expertise in all areas of basic science research will be considered, strong preference will be given to those with experience in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, quantitative proteomics and/or computational biology. This position offers a vibrant and highly interactive academic setting in a new state-of-the-art research facility, along with NIH-sponsored funding, access to outstanding resources and technology platforms, strong computational support from the DMPI Computational Biology Core, and a friendly, collaborative, and interdisciplinary group of colleagues in both the clinical and basic sciences.
Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.
The candidate will have a minimum of a PhD, preferably in analytical chemistry or biochemistry. Prior experience in proteomics is highly desirable and formal training in bioinformatics/computer science would be beneficial.
Interested candidates should contact Paul.Grimsrud@duke.edu and/or Deb Muoio at muoio@duke.edu .
