A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is immediately available to work in the Department of Surgery and Center for Human Systems Immunology at Duke University School of Medicine. The position seeks a highly motivated candidate committed to developing an academic career in immunology, with a strong interest in innate immunity to viral infections.

The individual will work within the laboratories of Drs. R. Keith Reeves and Stephanie Jost where one goal is to understand how innate lymphoid cells contribute to the control of immune homeostasis and viral infections. While ILCs have also demonstrated potential in controlling respiratory infections, the exact niche in the lungs remains unclear.  The postdoctoral fellow will work on fully NIH-supported projects seeking to comprehensively characterize and clarify the role of ILCs using transplant specimens and nonhuman primate models. Research in this laboratory will also require the adept exploration of subjects such as cellular signaling, cellular metabolism, and immunogenomics.

We seek:

  • Recent Ph.D. graduate in Immunology, Virology, or Cell Biology. Experience with flow cytometry and other immunological techniques is essential. Prior experience with virology, nonhuman primate models, or primary cell culture is highly desirable. Computational experience is beneficial, but not required.
  • Collaborative, ambitious, and scientifically driven individual, with a track record of productive research demonstrated by multiple first author publications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to develop research projects as well as mentor others.
  • Eagerness to design and implement new techniques and approaches to model human immune cell function.
