Job Description:

Synthesis, purification and analysis of cyclic peptides; and assist with general laboratory maintenance, including routine record keeping, ordering, compliance with hazardous waste, and chemical safety requirements.

Research:
Synthesize, purify and analyze cyclic peptide analogs. This will involve solid phase and solution phase peptide synthesis, peptide cyclization, purification of the compounds by flash chromatography or preparative HPLC, and analysis of the peptides by analytical HPLC and mass spectrometry.
Carry out research and data analysis in accordance with stipulated protocols, quality and safety standards.


Lab Maintenance:
Maintain accurate laboratory records that record research methods, procedures, and results. Enter information in databases. Prepare figures, reports, manuscripts and presentations on the research. Carry out literature searches relevant to the research topic.
Develop, learn, and troubleshoot new techniques as needed based on current projects in the laboratory.
Other duties include attending lab meetings and providing input on other research ongoing in the laboratory.


Lab Management:
Assist with daily operations of the laboratory: including ordering, inventory, compliance with hazardous waste and chemical safety requirements, routine record keeping.
Conduct routine maintenance on assigned laboratory equipment to verify that it is in good condition to ensure accuracy and quality of experimental results.
Establish standard operating procedures and detailed written protocols as needed.
Contribute to general duties of laboratory operation, including cleaning and organization of the area, supplies, and equipment.
Responsible for and required to protect laboratory (and UF) intellectual property which include maintaining confidential data accurately and safely in accordance with laboratory notebook SOPs and UF IP policy.

Training:
Assist in maintaining laboratory safety programs and training personnel in laboratory safety techniques.

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least three years post PhD experience in medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry or a related field.
Experience with the synthesis of macrocyclic peptides.
Positive attitude to work with a track record of working well with other lab members and performing all work in a safe manner.
