Summary

This position is located within IQuESt, the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety. We are the largest center for Health Services Research within the Southwest. We conduct high-quality scientific research that improves the health of patients across the nation, by helping to ensure the patient-centered delivery of scientific discoveries. We are looking for a postdoctoral associate to collaborate on data science projects, such as health risk assessment, predicting adverse outcomes, signal processing and natural language processing (NLP). As a postdoctoral associate, you will be responsible for working to solve healthcare challenges through an evidence based approach. These solutions will be found through machine learning and building applications within a scripting language, such as Python, R, etc. You will engage with data science collaborators to fully help them to understand clinical questions and process flows to make sure the solution that is provided to them will address the challenges successfully.

 

The ideal candidate is a MD or PhD with some experience in clinical research. Familiarity with electronic medical records is preferred.


Job Duties
  • Assists in verification and annotation of clinical data.
  • Assists in developing clinically relevant questions for the data scientists/
  • Assists the data scientist to understand various work flows related to different types of medical practices.
  • Assists the team to understanding the treatments and follow ups so the development of NLP would be more accurate.
  • Assists in design of big data driven clinical studies.
  • Assists in verification of the study data.
  • Assists in manuscript development.
  • Attends various clinically oriented national meetings to present the study results.
  • Assists in writing grant proposals.
  • Works with researchers and and other clinicians to design and implement new NLP components and prepare presentations and publications.
  • Develops infrastructure for clinical data annotation and verification.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MD or PhD in machine learning, data science or engineering, with two years of clinical experience.
