The Data Science and Learning (DSL) Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral candidate to participate in projects of strategic national importance in quantum information science. Postdoctoral appointee will contribute to projects in quantum networking that include building a quantum network testbed, performing quantum communication experiments, developing quantum network simulations, and creating quantum network protocols.

Quantum Information Science is one of the major initiatives at Argonne, encompassing broad research activities in quantum simulation, sensing, and networking. The laboratory is also a founding member of the Chicago Quantum Exchange, and the lead institution of Q‑NEXT, a National Quantum Information Science Research Center. These organizations encompass more than 100 quantum information science researchers and include collaborators from multiple national laboratories, universities, and quantum technology companies. Postdoctoral appointee will be fully integrated in this interdisciplinary research team.

Position Requirements

PhD (typically completed within 3 years or soon-to-be completed) in computing, engineering, physics, or a related discipline and interest in quantum information science.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: development of quantum network protocols and use of FPGAs; development of foundational building blocks for quantum networking; experimental demonstration of quantum communication; simulation of open quantum systems, noise characterization, or quantum error correction; high-performance computing or scientific computing; large-scale code development in C, C++, Python, go or a similar language.

Positions are available immediately as well as with start dates in 2022. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is not required.
