The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division as Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a postdoctoral appointee. With mentoring, the candidate will conduct research in supported inorganic and organometallic catalysts for the activation of small molecules. The project will involve designing, synthesizing, and characterizing new metal-ligand complexes, supporting these complexes into metal oxides, and then evaluating the catalytic activity of these catalysts for the olefin polymerization and depolymerization/upcycling. The successful candidate will undergo more detailed studies towards understanding the reaction mechanisms and determining the reaction kinetics.
Position Requirements
Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of highly air-sensitive transition metal complexes and in polymer synthesis are essential
Considerable skill in written and oral communication is a requirement
Experience in ligand design and analytical techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy would be an asset
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience
