Postdoctoral Appointee - Organic Materials Chemist

The Applied Materials Division is seeking a candidate to fill a Postdoctoral position in organic chemistry with a focus on new organic materials for next generation batteries. This position will primarily involve hands-on laboratory work on material synthesis as well as process Research and Development in a laboratory environment. Characterization and use-testing of new materials will also be required. Previous experience with organic synthesis is required. The successful candidate will design or modify laboratory procedures and protocols, develop experimental designs, run technical experiments, make detailed observations, collect, and analyze data, and effectively report results. Candidates will be expected to formally present research progress internally and externally.

Position Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field with 0 to 2 years of experience.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas: organic chemistry and synthesis, organic materials analysis, and materials characterization.

  • Hands-on experience in small molecule analytical techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and on a timely basis with the laboratory supervisory personnel on all developments or matters resulting from laboratory work activities.

  • Ability to maintain organized notebooks and project files.

  • Ability to be a team player.

  • A high commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of continuous flow chemistry and large-scale equipment.

  • Knowledge of battery electrochemistry.
