Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Plant Pathology, Entomology and Microbiology and Seed Science Center at Iowa State University invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral position with the potential for renewal based on performance, supervised by Dr. Arias in collaboration with Dr. Leandro and Dr. Licht. The candidate will be responsible for conducting research to evaluate how relay-cropping winter crops with soybeans affects soybean diseases (damping-off, white mold, Pythium and Fusarium root diseases, stem and foliar diseases, SDS) and soybean cyst nematode. The position has a requirement to conduct field and growth chamber trials. The responsibilities include the evaluation of yield and quality data and analysis of UAV imagery, as well as disease incidence and severity over the season. Expectations include leadership, innovative problem-solving, assisting the PI in writing grants, reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and extension publications, and participation in professional scientific meetings. The position has a requirement to be involved with mentoring undergraduate/ graduate students in research. 


Required Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or related areas. 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in field research methods.

  • Substantial experience in the identification of soybean diseases.

  • Prior experience working with small crops (such as barley) and/or oilseeds.

  • Experience in experimental design, data processing, statistical analysis, and presentation of data. Use of R.

  • Published at least 1-2 articles in peer-reviewed international journals as the first author in plant disease/plant pathology.

  • Demonstrated experience in the basic principles of microscopy.
