Position Summary
Our research focus is to develop physiologically relevant three-dimensional microenvironments with the goal to elucidate how microenvironmental factors drive cellular behaviors in disease progression and design strategies to halt such progression. The current NIH-funded project is focused on elucidating mechanisms of early-stage breast cancer progression and collective migration using tissue-engineered, microfluidic-based cancer models. Areas of interest for this position include cancer biology, pharmacology, and engineered disease models.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform research related duties as directed by PI utilizing interdisciplinary biomaterial-, molecular/cell biology- and micro/nanotechnology-based approaches to achieve our research goals;
  • Keeping the accurate record of the experiments suitable for preparation grant progress reports and scientific papers
  • Prepare for publication papers describing the obtained results
  • Presenting the results at scientific meetings
  • Participate in the weekly lab meetings, Journal Clubs and common seminars of the Department and the Center

  • Qualifications:
    Minimum Qualifications
    • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacology, Cancer biology or a related field.
    • Must be able to develop innovative projects, design a hypothesis-driven experiments, develop new methods, interpret results independently, and maintain excellent documentation of the experiments performed and results obtained.
    • Strong publication record and grant writing skills.
    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Ability to work closely with the scientists having different experience levels (undergraduate, MS/PhD students, and technicians).
    • Strong background in molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to, real time quantitative PCR, western blots, co-immunoprecipitations, ELISA, cellular transfections, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry.
    • Prior experience with in vivo tumor models, microfluidic on-chip systems, imaging and working experience in handling patient samples will be considered as strengths.
