Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral researcher will work closely with Bioeconomy Institute co-Director, Regenerative Agriculture team, and “STRIPS” (science-based trials of rowcrops integrated with prairie strips) research collaborators to collect and analyze agroecological data for peer-reviewed publication. Prospective applicants should demonstrate a strong history of publications and interdisciplinary collaboration. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of Midwestern agroecosystems and direct experience collecting, managing and analyzing field data using R, Python or similar tools. Duties include: collect and analyze new field data on plant composition, soils, and ecosystem processes from reconstructed prairies in Iowa and Missouri; analyze and integrate existing biophysical data on the ecosystem function of prairie strips on commercial corn and soybean fields; provide nominal support for field and lab data collection on ecosystem processes and functions associated with climate-smart agricultural management in corn-soybean cropping systems. This individual will also support scicomm outreach for prairie strips CP43 conservation practice at workshops and field days in the central Midwest (e.g. Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska). While efforts will be collaborative, it is expected that the role will work independently and ultimately publish results through scientific journals, scicomm media and funding agency reports.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.  


Required Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree
 


Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in ecology, botany, environmental science, natural resources, soil science, or related discipline. 

Demonstrated experience collecting field data, following data management best practices, and analyzing data for publication using R, Python or related tools.

Experience drafting and submitting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and contributing to grant proposals.

Demonstrated knowledge of prairie ecology and/or Midwest agricultural practices, including regenerative ag. 

Experience working with an interdisciplinary team to deliver scicomm outreach to diverse audiences.
