The Media Innovation lab (MIL) is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow in Health Informatics. The MIL training and mentoring mission is to enhance individual and population health outcomes and improve patient care using its five verticals (education, research, clinical, venture, and service), and through research and development of data science and information technology.  The Post Doctoral Scholar will take initiative and work independently in developing new research ideas, design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings and publish results in research journals, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In addition, postdocs will assume responsibility for overall scientific operations at the MIL lab, and/or provide supervision and guidance to MIL lab staff, trainees, and other researchers. This role will provide the opportunity to work on big clinical data sets with an interdisciplinary team. It will prepare the postdoctoral fellow for an independent career in informatics research, digital health, technology, and transformation.

  • Assists in planning and designing research experiments, establishes priorities, and recommends schedules.
  • Presents research findings at local and national scientific conferences.
  • Writes technical publications and reports.
  • Designs and writes programs to perform analysis and produces written reports on results.
  • Collects pilot data to help support new and competing renewal applications.
  • Supervises undergraduate and graduate research students and performs literature reviews.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

  • MD or Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Human/Statistical Genetics, Neuroimaging, Neurosciences, or a related field (with an emphasis on data science or statistical analyses of human subjects’ datasets).

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate research findings through oral presentation and written publication.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative manner with a diverse group of scientists and clinicians.
  • Experience with: R, Python, Bayesian machine learning, etc.
  • Experience using computing clusters (batch processing), cloud computing services, and containerization.
