Post Doctoral Researchers to pursue education and experience in research under the supervision of designated faculty in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology, for a period generally not to exceed three years; performs basic science and applied research in the field of neurobiology of disease with considerable scope and complexity; identifies and selects problems to be studied in agreement with Principal Investigator; plans and performs complex experiments and procedures; coordinates, collects, and analyzes data; prepares research results for publication in reports, papers, journal, books, presentations, conference and other media; prepare seminars, talks, and lectures; supervise over assigned research staff and students; assists with laboratory techniques and operates laboratory equipment; performs basic lab maintenance duties; maintains lab supplies; and other duties as assigned.

The postdoc researchers will help to carry out two main research projects that are funded by NIH, one related to mild traumatic brain injury and the other related to multiple sclerosis.

Research techniques include mouse models for diseases and injuries, conditional knockout with the Cre-Lox system, PCR-based genotyping, stereotaxic microinjection of AAV, mouse behavioral testing, immunostaining and confocal imaging, transmission electron microscopy, electrophysiological recording, primary neuron culture, flow cytometry, live-cell imaging, mutagenesis and cloning, and protein biochemistry. The candidates who are self-motivated and familiar with multiple above-mentioned techniques are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A doctoral degree in neuroscience, cell biology, pharmacology, biochemistry or other appropriate discipline, or equivalent. Doctoral degree with research experience required; previous experience in handling and breeding of mice including transgenic mice.

Preferred; strong publication record preferred; ability to work in an independent environment with moderate supervision; strong analytical and writing skills.

Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
