Highly motivated individuals with a PhD or MD/PhD in relevant area are encouraged to apply. This training position, under the direct supervision of an Ohio State University Principal Investigator will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. This position is appointed through the Wexner Medical Center. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic, and strong written and verbal communication skills. This program is expected to be completed between 2 to 4 years.

The principal Investigator, Dr. Matthew Kalady, is the director of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery of the Wexner Medical Center (Columbus, Ohio), and a member of the Cancer Biology Program within the James Comprehensive Cancer Center. The laboratory focuses on both basic and translational research.

The project s aim is centered on the functional understanding of molecular processes that drive chemoradiation resistance in rectal cancer. To investigate mechanisms of radiation and chemotherapy resistance of colon and rectal cancer, we employ in vitro experimentation and ex situ analyses such as transcriptomic, metabolomic, metagenomic profiles. We also use in vivo mouse models and patient-derived organoid models for pre-clinical validation.

The tasks associated with this position will involve but are not limited to:

Establishing of organoid lines from patient samples and cultivating cancer cell lines

Conduct in vivo experiments.

Performing DNA, RNA and protein analysis of cancer cell lines, patient-derived organoids and patient samples

Applying small drug and CRISPR screen to identify sensitivities of cancer cell lines or patient-derived organoids.

Mapping signaling networks of cancer cell lines or patient-derived organoids.

Validation experiments (including qPCR, Western blotting, FACS etc.)

Provide a scientific watch on the latest discoveries in the field.

Qualifications:

* PhD degree required

* Proven organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail

* Ability to work independently, taking initiative to advance projects

* Demonstrated understanding with next generation protocols

* Ability to use sound judgment and communicate effectively with users and facility staff

* Ability to effectively collaborate and interact with all levels of staff and management

* Ability to manage a small team of staff technicians

* Willingness to assist with administrative tasks including generating quotes and billing for services

* History of publications

* Grant writing experience preferred
