Summary

The Center for Political Studies (CPS) in the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in American politics with interests in public policy and computational social science. This position has no teaching or service obligations.  The Fellow will work on research related to local government, policing, and law enforcement.

Responsibilities*
  • Submitting and monitoring public records requests;
  • Managing and working with research assistants to process incoming data;
  • Performing policy analysis, including summarizing policing data and writing up reports of findings; and
  • Developing and leading new research projects in coordination with the PI with potential grant development and writing, as needed.

  • Proven ability to work with and analyze administrative data.
  • Strong project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to multitask and work successfully with little supervision.

Required Qualifications*
  • A Ph.D. by September 1, 2024 in a related area (e.g., political science, public policy, etc.)
  • Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following:  American politics, political institutions, law enforcement, policing, or policy evaluation.
  • Demonstrated interest in bridging the gap between academic research and public policy.
