Summary of Job Duties:

A Post-Doctoral Fellow position is available in the Moldoveanu lab from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology located in the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI). We invite applications for a highly motivated, creative, and energetic structural biologist to work on interdisciplinary projects at the interface of protein engineering and integrated structural and chemical biology of cell death programs. The successful candidate will use cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography to reveal the conformations of macromolecules that regulate programmed cell death pathways (e.g. apoptosis, ferroptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis).

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in structural biology or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong record of innovative independent research based on published work.
  • Excellent technical skills in protein engineering, molecular biology, and structural biology.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).

  • Strong background in membrane proteins or cell death pathways is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform molecular biology and protein expression in bacterial, mammalian and insect cells.
  • Setting-up workflows for purification and optimization of purified samples for structural biology.

  • Perform data acquisition and structure determination of macromolecules.

  • Perform computational aspects of cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography.

  • Conduct data analysis and interpretation and manuscript preparation.

  • Contribute to mentoring new researchers in our group in various aspects of structural biology.

  • Collaborate with chemical biologists in our team to enable structure-based design.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
